L to R: Whitney Ritt, Leslie Gell, Trisha Wagner, and David Dwyer

(Providence, RI) On January 12, 2026, Leslie Gell, a Career Resource Specialist on the Providence Team, was presented a Success at Work award by David Dwyer during a team meeting. She was nominated for the award by Director Whitney Ritt. Since the award’s inception in 2000, Work Opportunities Unlimited (WOU) has presented the Success at Work award to honor and recognize team members who have delivered outstanding service consistent with the company’s core values.

Whitney nominated Leslie for her person-centered approach to client services, sharing, “Leslie has continued to support her clients in not only meeting, but exceeding their goals. She is always forward thinking and takes initiative to hit the ground running with her clients on their career journeys.” A prominent example is Leslie’s work with one individual who was referred to WOU for onsite support at her role as a dietary aide at a nursing home. When they became acquainted, Leslie learned that the individual wished to explore the world of culinary arts. Leslie helped the individual locate and complete an eight-week culinary arts program, pass the ServSafe Manager exam, and secure an internship.

When the individual was offered a permanent role, Leslie helped her overcome several challenges she faced on the job. For example, the individual was introverted and had difficulty interacting with costumers and colleagues, so Leslie utilized role-playing to increase her comfortability. Leslie also helped the individual become proficient in taking customer orders; they practiced how to identify the different coffee drinks on the menu and which orders required asking the customer about their preferences (e.g., type of milk for a latte). With Leslie’s support, the individual has successfully completed her first of employment and received a raise. Her employer plans to send her to a coffee art class so she can start making latte art on her creations. She also achieved a long-term goal of obtaining her learner’s permit, with Leslie helping her advocate for accommodations. The individual is gaining independence and thriving at her dream job as a result of her hard work and Leslie’s dedication to providing excellent client support services.
