(Auburn, ME)  On January 25th Kathie Williams, a Career Resource Specialist in our Auburn, Maine market, was awarded a Success-at-Work Award during a VR team meeting. She was nominated for the award by Mike Murtha, our Auburn Director.

During the presentation Mike noted many successes Kathie has had. Of special note was how she took on a new role this year of working with VR’s progressive employment and summer employment pilot programs.  She developed relationships with over 20 businesses, and facilitated informational interviews, job shadows, assessments and other work activities. Her involvement in these pilot programs resulted in many young adults learning about and experiencing the world of work for the first time and allowed our team to grow and expand the number of VR referrals and number of VR Counselors we do business with.

Then when the Department of Labor launched a new initiative, Youth Employment and the Steps to Success, to promote summer youth employment, and showcase summer employment successes on their website, Facebook pages and Twitter account, Kathie submitted several stories and pictures of successes she developed and executed for clients and employers.

One youth Kathie supported was Brandon, who participated in a summer work experience in a graphic arts position with RNB Graphics. He learned to cut-out graphics and put them on a graphic board that will be used to produce advertising products. Brandon did such a good job with graphics support, that the employer expanded Brandon’s role and is now teaching him about the promotion and marketing side of the business.

In making the presentation Steve Wood presented Kathie a certificate which read:

Work Opportunities Unlimited honors Kathie Williams for her commitment to the core value “We are a pioneering, creative organization” by finding new ways to help people find employment. A special recent example is how Kathie helps VR and youth like Brandon in a new youth employment project. Kathie’s positive attitude and commitment to clients, make her a great teammate and a Success at Work!

The “Success-at-Work” award, which began in 2000, periodically honors and recognizes team members who have delivered outstanding service to our clients consistent with the Company’s core values.

Congratulations, Kathie!
