Community Supports

Although Work Opportunities Unlimited focuses on employment, the ultimate goal is for the individual to achieve their preferred level of independence at work, in their community and in life.

Community Supports engages individuals in work, recreation, and other personal activities that promote living a preferred lifestyle in their preferred community. It is our objective to provide employment services, but also provide services that develop self-advocacy, independent living and communication skills resulting in positive community relationships. Community Supports gives the individual the opportunity to participate in activities that will put them on a path to independence. Below is a list of just some of those activities:

  • Person-centered planning
  • Volunteering
  • Participating in job tours, job shadows and work trials
  • Participating in fitness activities at gyms
  • Enrolling and support in further education
  • Participating in community and recreational activities
  • Developing positive and meaningful relationships
  • Accessing and utilizing community services such as the library, public transportation, and the post office.

Our Community Supports service is driven by the person-centered plan, which puts the individual receiving services at the center of the decision-making process. The goal is to identify talents, skills and preferences; that result in a customized plan of service. From there, our team of professionals works with each individual to help them achieve their goals.
