Work Opportunities Unlimited partners with school districts, which issue professional development hours at their discretion to teachers and para-professionals based on course completion.  The courses below have been developed by experienced professionals with hands-on experience in the field of employment services for students and adults with disabilities.  With experience that began in 1982, the team at Work Opportunities Unlimited has implemented industry best practices and has created courses in practical terms to help teachers and professionals assist students and families with navigating the turbulent waters of transition.

Available Courses

Functional Assessments

Gain proficiency with facilitating assessments that evaluate the training and support needs of the student resulting in effective training and transition planning relative to securing post-secondary employment.  Emphasis will be put on person-centered planning, job search skills and transportation training.  Self-paced and live hosted webinars equating to 5 training hours.

Developing Employer Partnerships

Learn a consultative process for developing employer partnerships and strategies to effectively secure career exploration and employment opportunities for students.   The process will include making initial contact with employers, facilitating employer meetings and the concept of job carving/creation. Self-paced and live hosted webinars equating to 6 training hours.

Facilitating Independence at Work

The goal of this course is to build capacity within you to provide job site supports to individuals with disabilities, their coworkers and supervisors in order to maximize the individual’s independence at work.  Focus will be put on the support person’s role as a consultant to develop natural supports and facilitate successful employee/employer relationships by implementing effective interventions. Self-paced and live hosted webinars equating to 7 training hours.

SSA Benefits and Work Incentives

The goal of this course is for you to learn the basics related to SSDI and SSI benefits, the impact work has on these benefits and the work incentives available to assist recipients.  Also, included is an overview of the Ticket to Work program administered by the Social Security Administration. Self-paced and live hosted webinars equating to 6 training hours.
